Need Help
When I came home from the Biggest Loser ranch I had no idea what I was going to do. I was coming back to an old life as a new person. I knew I had a live finale to prepare for and I had to figure out a way to mesh these two lives together.
I started working with two local trainers who just happened to own the fitness franchise Ellipse Fitness (http://www.ellipsefitness.com/). After 5 months on the Biggest Loser ranch I though I had done nearly every type of exercise known to man but guess what…I was wrong! Lisa and Shana came up with creative fun ways to help me prepare for finale. Besides the innovated exercise routines the knowledge I gained was priceless. I learned more than I ever expected on the ranch and that did not stop once I got home. To this day I constantly find myself quoting things I have learned from Lisa and Shana to other people I talk to.
I believe one of the most powerful weapons to fight the battle of the bulge is knowledge. If you are frustrated, lost, and desperate for change I would urge anyone to reach out to a professional for help. I know you may be thinking “but a trainer is so expensive”. I am telling you the cost of a trainer for a few sessions will fail in comparison to what you could be paying in doctor bills and prescriptions due to weight related diseases.
If you are looking to make a change in your life but don’t know where to turn I want you to go into your bathroom, look yourself in the mirror and say “I NEED HELP”. Now I want you to go out and find it! You will be so happy you did!

So funny story, I was at the gym Wednesday morning (my half day) trying to regroup and refocus because I had lost sight for a couple weeks. I’ve got my headphones in full blast and I’m on my strength training paying no attention to anyone else. Well, one of the personal trainers walks up to me and says, “What’s your name?” I of course didn’t hear him and wasn’t paying him much attention as I was focused on these weights…once I realized he was addressing me I took them out and he shook my hand saying, “I’m going to give you a free personal training session with no strings attached.” Soo, needless to say I am scheduled for next Wednesday to get my professional help started.
I’m actually meeting with the lady trainer who works there and I had like 20 minutes to talk to her after my workout was over and by the end of the conversation I was really pumped for Wednesday but I was able to tell her where I started and where I am now and she just couldn’t stop saying, “Wow…you are ahead of the game. Most people don’t realize some of the things you just told me until years down the road.” That made me happy needless to say because past couple weeks I have NOT been feeling like I know much at all…I gained not one, but TWO weeks in a row and it’s been a mess trying to refocus and get my head back to that place of determination. Hmm…
Thanks for the post Kristin!

My problem has always been finding someone that can deal with larger people. My luck has always been awful at it.
I get a lot of the ones that you can just tell by the look on their face when they meet you that they totally do not really want to be working with anyone with more than maybe 50 pounds to lose… they are more looking to help skinny people tone or people who aren’t really that overweight but think that they are… and as much as i’ve given the benefit of the doubt, it usually really shows it during the sessions.
Or, on the opposite end, I once got this one…. that I seriously think was amazed anyone over a certain weight could even get out their door…. and went overboard on praise of everything as if it was a miracle i could put forth the effort to stand up. and was scared to death I was going to have a heart attack or something to the point of being useless. yes, i can manage your 15 minutes walking the track and find it not real worthy of the big production of how wonderful i’m doing, thanks.
But the best… was when I’d actually asked around for referrals to someone actually used to working with overweight people… and called this guy’s office… and the receptionist goes “ya know, i can check, but i’m not sure he will work with people without a referral… usually he only takes people who are working with a weight loss surgeon before their procedure.” great…. the guy who will sign off for the docs that the people can’t lose weight on their own so that the insurance will pay for it…. not quite the same goals as i have in mind.
Anyone got any tips on finding the good ones?

Oh my goodness! The day before this was posted I had my physical. The doctor suggested a personal trainer because I keep getting stuck. I was so frustrated with this because of the cost and where I am in my life. I had told her what an inspiration you were to me and that I had heard you speak. She said that this is something anyone with extensive weight loss would suggest. It was so strange to see this posted just a day after being given that advice. Thank you for being an inspiration and helping educate others in their journey! You are an amazing woman!

Another visit to my rheumatologist reaffirms my need to lose weight. He said my pain is 10X what it should be due to my weight. He said even 10 pounds would help. The weight is causing my body to attack itself and cause a lot of inflammation. This week I have Pericarditis: painful! I actually can lose up to 85 pounds! That is a lot to carry around on my joints. I am so busy and I have three kids, but somehow I have to squeeze in some exercise to save my life. I need to consider a personal trainer if I can’t get myself to exercise. It really would save $ on co-pays, Dr. bills, Rx, etc. in the long run!

A trainer is worth the money.. Before I started on this journey I was supposed to go for a sleep study. The study was going to cost $3,500! (all going to my deductive) My attitude was.. well, the money is already gone. Who are you going to give the money to? A stupid sleep study or a trainer. The money is gone.. you just have to decide who is going to get it. I’ve been with my trainer now for 6 months and lost 59 lbs. I’ve never slept better!
